Katchatheevu Island Dispute Heats Up: Stalin Appeals to Modi, BJP Counters

Tensions are rising over the ownership of Katchatheevu Island, a small, uninhabited island located in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to reclaim the island, citing its importance to Tamil Nadu fishermen.

Stalin Recalls Assembly Resolution Seeking Katchatheevu’s Return

In his appeal, CM Stalin referenced the Tamil Nadu Assembly’s resolution passed on April 2nd of this year. This resolution formally requests the Indian government to take necessary steps to retrieve Katchatheevu Island from Sri Lanka.

BJP Accuses DMK of Hypocrisy

The BJP responded to Stalin’s appeal by accusing the DMK of inaction during their previous tenure in the central government. They argue that the DMK had the opportunity to address the Katchatheevu issue but failed to do so, questioning the sincerity of their current efforts.
