Delhi’s Barapullah Flyover Project Under Scrutiny: Govt Probes ₹140 Crore Loss
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding the Barapullah Phase-III project. The focus of the probe is a significant financial loss, estimated at ₹140 crore, attributed to the previous AAP government’s handling of a dispute with the project contractor.
AAP’s Rejected Settlement Offer Leads to Hefty Court Payout
The heart of the issue lies in a rejected out-of-court settlement. CM Gupta’s administration contends that the previous AAP government disregarded a contractor-proposed settlement of ₹35 crore. This rejection ultimately led to a court-mandated payout of ₹175 crore, resulting in a substantial ₹140 crore difference and a significant burden on public funds.
Investigation Aims to Uncover Potential Mismanagement
The ACB probe aims to determine whether there was any wrongdoing or mismanagement by the previous administration in their handling of the contractor dispute. The investigation is expected to delve into the decision-making process that led to the rejection of the initial settlement offer and the subsequent escalation of costs.
