New Delhi, April 24, 2025 — In a solemn and urgent meeting today, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) issued a strong resolution condemning the barbaric terrorist attack that shook Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22nd. The tragedy claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists and injured over 20 others, marking one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in recent memory.
The Congress Party extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and hailed the courage of the local ponywalas and tourist guides, one of whom lost his life trying to shield the tourists. “Their bravery reaffirms our faith in humanity,” the resolution noted.
Advocate Arsalan Khalid’s Plea for Victims from Bengal
Among the victims were three individuals from West Bengal, whose loss has deeply affected their communities. Congress leader Advocate Arsalan Khalid has urged the Bengal state government to immediately extend comprehensive assistance to these families, stating:
“These families must not be forgotten after the headlines fade. We urge the government to support them not just today, but in the long journey ahead.”
He called for:
-
A government job for one member of each victim’s family.
-
Adequate financial compensation.
-
Long-term support for children’s education and healthcare.
-
A sustainable family welfare plan.
Demanding a Transparent Probe
The Congress Party raised serious concerns about the intelligence and security failure that allowed such an attack to occur in a region known for tight security. “Pahalgam has a three-tier security grid. How was this breach possible under the direct control of the Union Home Ministry?” the party asked, demanding an immediate and transparent investigation.
Unity Over Division
In a powerful message of national solidarity, the CWC urged all citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to the intended divisive impact of the attack, which it said deliberately targeted Hindu tourists to incite communal tensions.
While all major parties across Jammu and Kashmir have condemned the attack in unison, the Congress expressed dismay over attempts by the BJP to use the tragedy for political messaging through social media proxies.
“This is not the time for political games. This is the time to protect our unity and humanity,” the CWC emphasized.
Ensuring Safety for the Amarnath Yatra
With the annual Amarnath Yatra approaching, the Congress emphasized the need for urgent and robust security measures to protect pilgrims. “This pilgrimage is not just spiritual, it’s a symbol of national faith. We must ensure it continues peacefully and safely,” the resolution added.
A Call for Collective Will
The Congress Party also noted that it had called for an all-party meeting on the night of the attack itself, now scheduled to be chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. “Let this tragedy be a turning point in how we protect our people and address terror — together,” the resolution stated.
In Summary
The Congress Working Committee has not only condemned the Pahalgam attack but has demanded accountability, support for victims, and a national display of unity. The Party stands firm in its resolve to fight terrorism with strength, justice, and compassion — upholding the idea of India in every step.
